Millions of Americans are affected by a “dual diagnosis” or “co-occurring disorder” each year. These terms are used to describe a mental health disorder that is coupled with a substance use disorder or vice versa. Treating just one-side alone will not lead to long-term recovery.
According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health,9.2 million U.S. adults experienced both mental illness and a substance use disorder in 2018.
