Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

Millwood Hospital Branches partial hospitalization programs (PHPs) offer six-week, full-time day treatment for children, teens and adults in the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) region.

Partial Hospitalization (PHP)

Mental Health Conditions Treated in PHP

PHP is a day treatment option for people who were previously hospitalized for mental health concerns or want to avoid hospitalization. Participants go home every night, after a full day of learning, sharing and skill-building. PHP can help mitigate mental health issues and reduce the need for readmittance to the hospital.

We treat a wide range of mental health conditions, including:

  • Anxiety
  • Behavioral problems
  • Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Depression
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Substance use disorder (SUD)
  • Trauma

Solution-Focused Mental Health Care for Children, Teens and Adults

Partial hospitalization is a step up from an intensive outpatient program (IOP) or a step down from inpatient care. PHPs offer group therapy, education, skills development and individual and family therapy. Group therapy is valuable for sharing with — and learning from — others who have had similar experiences. We also work to find the appropriate medications and dosages that meet your needs.

Features of our PHP program include:

  • Consistent care: The same therapist provides treatment throughout the PHP experience, offering attentive, seamless care.
  • Medication management: Participants have twice-weekly visits with their psychiatrist for medication management — double the state-required visits.
  • Parental involvement: Parents and caregivers participate in medication recommendations for their child or teen.
  • Goal tracking: Participants help make decisions about personalized treatment goals, which are tracked weekly.
  • Continuum of care: After finishing PHP, participants can step down to a Branches IOP to continue their recovery.

Our PHPs include:

PHP for Children: Branches Excel Fort Worth

Branches Excel Fort Worth treats children in grades K-12. PHP hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Child- and adolescent-trained licensed therapists lead the program.

Children learn emotional management and develop resilience and social skills in a supportive group environment with their peers. Participants receive four hours of school a day and group therapy (Summer hours are 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., without an educational component).

PHP for Teens: Branches Arlington

Adolescents ages 5-18 benefit from teens-only programming that addresses the changes and challenges of growing up. PHP hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Branches Arlington.

Psychologists trained in adolescent mental health care help participants develop coping strategies and life skills that prepare them for the future. Teens receive two hours of grade-level education and three hours of skills development daily (Summer hours are 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., without an educational component).

Both Branches Arlington and Branches Midtown offer general mental health care PHPs. Our Arlington location also offers treatment for people with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. We can help with reducing dependency on alcohol, opioids, prescription medication, marijuana, synthetic drugs and nicotine.
