What Is Outpatient Mental Health Treatment?
Branches, a service of Millwood Hospital, offers a private, upscale and peaceful setting for personalized mental health care built around your experiences and needs. Our dedicated providers support recovery through understanding and consistency. People of all ages are welcome, including children as young as 5.
Outpatient programs — sometimes called day treatment programs — provide intensive therapy during the day and allow participants to go home at night. Programs last an average of six weeks. Because of the immersive nature of our programs, participants can reach their goals faster than in traditional therapy.

Why Choose Branches for Outpatient Mental Health Care
Individuals and families throughout Dallas-Fort Worth have trusted Millwood Hospital and Branches (formerly Excel) for decades. We stand out among mental health care providers for:
- Boutique-style care: Our outpatient programs offer customized care in a comfortable and respectful upscale space.
- Care navigator: We have a step-down care navigator who helps participants transition from inpatient care to PHP and IOP.
- Consistency: Participants see the same therapist and medical provider throughout their PHP or IOP experience.
- Education choices during treatment: Parents can choose our accredited charter school for their child’s continued learning or arrange for schoolwork from their child’s teachers.
- Family involvement: Weekly family meetings are essential to recovery, especially for children who are receiving care.
- Pet therapy: Our weekly pet therapy helps participants improve their mood, lower stress and develop social skills.
Starting Outpatient Mental Health Care Treatment
We start with an assessment to recommend an appropriate level of care. Once we figure out the treatment path that works for you or your loved one, we help make it as easy as possible. We can assist with:
- Employer paperwork: We can help complete your Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) paperwork for time off.
- Insurance: We help with pre-authorization paperwork required for care. Branches accepts most insurance plans, including HMOs, PPOs, Medicare, Medicaid and TRICARE®.
- Language support: We work with non-English speaking families so they can get the mental health care they need.
- School absences: Branches has relationships with public and private schools and registrars throughout the DFW district. We help coordinate your child’s absence from school and educational needs during treatment.
